OUR STORY

Losing a loved one is a deeply painful experience, and many of us long for a special place to honor their memory. For those without a traditional garden or who wish to keep their loved one’s remains protected within the home, I offer a solution that combines miniature natural landscapes with the safekeeping of cremated ashes. This unique creation brings together the serenity of nature and cherished memories, offering a comforting space that fosters peace and joyful reflection.

Each terrarium is custom-built upon order, requiring a lead time of 3 to 6 weeks. To begin, you will receive a zip-lock bag and a secure container. When collecting the ashes from Mandai Crematorium, simply scoop half a teaspoon of the powdered ash into the bag and place it in the container provided. Pass this container to me, and I will ensure it is respectfully and carefully stored in a dry box until the bio-urn is ready.

You can select a bio-urn design from our portal, which will be ordered new for your project. For those seeking a Buddhist-inspired design, we offer a serene terrarium featuring a miniature Buddha enveloped in lush moss, symbolizing peace and protection. For a Christian design, we provide a wooden cross adorned with moss and an empty cave, representing the risen Christ and the promise of eternal life for all believers. Each design creates a meaningful, peaceful, and easy-to-maintain memorial that brings comfort and hope.

The terrarium is equipped with a fully automated system to ensure optimal care for the moss and plants. A built-in waterfall provides consistent moisture, while a timed mist sprayer and fog maker enhance the natural ambiance. All components, including the misting system and grow light housed in a classical dome, are pre-set on timers, so your only task is to top up the water to a marked level. An extension plug is included, making the setup entirely plug-and-play for your convenience.

Once the terrarium is complete, I will record a video of the process of how we place the ash into the bio-urn. The ash will remain securely inside a zip-lock bag, allowing for future retrieval if necessary. The bio-urn will then be carefully filled with calcium chloride to maintain dryness, sealed with silicone for protection, and placed inside the terrarium. Please note, the ash can only be accessed by breaking the urn. Finally, the sealed bio-urn is thoughtfully positioned within the tank, creating a serene, enduring memorial that brings life and comfort to your space.

Yes, it is generally acceptable to extract and keep a portion of cremated ash at home, and many families choose to do so as a way of staying connected to their loved one. This practice is not only permissible but also becoming increasingly popular, especially with creative memorial options like bio-urns, keepsake urns, and memorial jewelry.

That said, here are a few considerations to keep in mind:

  1. Cultural and Religious Beliefs: Depending on your cultural or religious background, there may be specific guidelines or customs around handling and storing ashes. It’s worth checking these if they apply to you.

  2. Legal Regulations: In most places, there are no legal restrictions on keeping a small portion of ashes at home, but it's wise to confirm local regulations if you're uncertain.

  3. Emotional Readiness: Keeping ashes at home can provide comfort to many, but it’s essential to ensure that this decision feels right for you and other family members involved.

  4. Storage Environment: Ashes should be stored in a safe, dry, and secure container to ensure they remain in good condition. If they are housed in a bio-urn within a terrarium or paludarium, proper sealing and moisture control are crucial.

Ultimately, this is a deeply personal choice, and if it brings you peace and comfort, then it is a thoughtful and meaningful way to honor your loved one.
